Chess on a day off

So, I've got the day off today. It feels so much more natural not waking up to an alarm clock.

I hopped in the shower, wondering what I'd be doing for the day, and my mind somehow jumped to wondering if Tyler would want to play some play-by-email chess. He's got unfettered internet access (for the most part) at his work, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Tyler is the strategy game master. Starcraft, Advance Wars, Connect Four--you name it, and he'll eventually just decimate you at the game. He never really got into chess, but we played a few different play-by-email games in the past. I hopped on gchat after showering and it turns out Tyler is already a member to a play-by-email chess site: Chesshere.com. It doesn't look like he's actually played a game yet, but I was still impressed. We're in the middle of a game now. I've got about a decade of experience on him at chess, and I think that might win me one game before he starts punishing me.

I'm accepting all challengers, so if you want to get a game going, my name on there is meanhappyguy. It can just be for fun, or we can make a bet. If you are a blogger and would like to play a game of chess, might I suggest loser has to draw a Paint picture of the game in the winner's honor, the post it on their blog for the world to see? Also, drink bets are always live (unless you beat me a few times in a row).

Oh, its on, brother. It's on like Donkey Kong. I'm not so good at chess, so let's have a round for fun, and then if I'm up for it, we can play for some dough, like a Mookie buy-in or something. I've set up an acct under HighOnPoker, but I have no clue how to use this site.

After making about 10 moves in my game with Tyler, I'd give the website an 8 out of 10 on usability. The only gripe I have is that the game doesn't automatically update. So if we're taking turns every minute, you have to hit f5 to refresh the page.

If you are offline, you'll be sent an email when your opponent has made a move. When you are online, you won't receive this email--which I think is a nice cut-down on spam. You can also choose to turn off the 'email when opponent has moved' option.

Your move, whitey.
